Last weekend was Game-A-Con in Palm Desert. It was my first mall event, and after the enormity of L.A. Comic Con, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What transpired blew my mind…
Game-A-Con ended up being my best show to date!
I met a lot of Sci-Fi fans who were eager to read a great story and support an indie author. Three readers even bought complete sets of the Mechhaven series (5 novels + 2 novellas). As far as I could tell, I was the only author there. Everyone else was selling art, hand-crafted items, and video game-related merchandise, so I’m hoping to see a few more writers there next year. I’ll definitely be back!
I want to thank everyone who came out, listened to my pitch, and gave Mechhaven a try! Here’s a collage of some of last weekend’s fun!
Podcast Appearance: I joined fellow authors Ingrid Moon and Mookie Spitz on Mookie’s Bald Ambition podcast to discuss our experiences at L.A. Comic Con, in-person book marketing tips, and a little bit about the use of AI in creative endeavors. All-in-all a very interesting discussion if you’re into those things.

Except for the group picture, we went audio only.
Newsletter News: Beginning with this week’s edition, the Gregeration X Newsletter will shift to once per month for the foreseeable future. While I shift gears between series, I’ll have less to report on, and I have some behind-the-scenes maintenance to deal with, so I’ll use the extra time to write new content, update my website, and change email providers. I may occasionally pop out an extra newsletter if I have something timely to report, but other than that, I’ll be focusing on making the once a month newsletters extra special!
Mechhaven Missives
- I’m still working on Routine Expedition, the next Mechhaven novella. I’m hoping to have the first draft completed by the end of the month. My goal is to spend most of this and next weekend working on it.
- Next month is Author Nation, an annual conference for indie authors. There, I’ll attend sessions on writing craft and exploring more audio and translation options for Mechhaven and future series.
Here are my upcoming appearances:
- Reader Nation in Las Vegas on November 7th. I’ll be at table F12 in the Sci-Fi & Post-Apocalyptic section.
- I’m always looking for other opportunities which I’ll post here as soon as I can confirm.
Novel November:
Beginning November 1st, I’ll be taking part in Novel November, which is replacing the now defunct NaNoWriMo in which writers strive to write 50,000 words in a month (basically a short novel). This activity has built-in supports for writers and is now sponsored by some popular writing-related companies.
I’ve known about this annual event for a long time, but it has never lined up with my schedule or writing goals. Finally, this year, it does! However, instead of writing a novel, I’ll be using the time to write three short stories/novellas that lead into my next series (more on that later!).

Check out Ingrid Moon and Mookie Spitz from the podcast above. We’ve attended several of the same conferences, so Ingrid has created an informal authors group. We’ll probably be doing more activities with each other in the future.
Until next time, have fun and read a lot of books!
