Gregeration X Newsletter September 6, 2025-The Final Battle Begins!

Posted on September 7, 2025September 7, 2025 by Greg Sorber

Wednesday, September 24, 2025, is By Archangel’s Light’s official launch day. I’m looking forward to this like you can’t believe!

The formatting of the paperback and e-book versions are all but done. I have about two weeks to upload the final files to Amazon, so I’m taking this time to do some final, final reviews. It’s surprising the number of little things that can slip through. The trick is not to introduce any new errors in the process!

This weekend is actually the first weekend in about two and a half months that I won’t have any day job work to catch up on, so I’ll be using it to recharge a bit, but all to prep for L.A. Comic Con. Since most of the work on By Archangel’s Light is complete, I may work on the partially finished novella I’ve mentioned before.

Mechhaven Missives

  • Once I upload the final files to Amazon, By Archangel’s Light will be available for pre-order. Once this is up and running, I’ll send a rare extra message between newsletters. I’ll also send one out on the official launch day.
  • My next appearance will be at L.A. Comic Con on September 26, 27, and 28. I’ll be at Table J14 in Artists Alley. I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll have some physical copies of Book 5 on hand for sale by then. If you’re there, please stop by and say “hi”!
  • Do you read ebooks from public libraries on apps like Overdrive or Hoopla? There have been some recent developments in the indie author space where Amazon is now allowing books that are normally exclusive to Kindle Unlimited to also be distributed to libraries. There are some steps I have to take to make this possible, and still have to convince the Library to purchase copies, but it is a great opportunity to reach new readers. If you use any of these apps (or know anyone who does) and are interested in getting the Mechhaven series on them, let me know. After I release Book 5, I’ll make this happen. If you’d like to see the series in your library, I’ll have instructions on how to request it. I’ll have more news about this endeavor in October.

Geddy’s Gambit (A Reassembly Series Story)

He’s in too deep to pull out now

All Geddy Starheart wanted was to get out of the game. Cash in his chips and stop running artifacts and weapons for the infamous Double A auction. But when a routine trip surprises him with that very opportunity, he must answer a very fraught question: What’s the catch?

It was supposed to be a routine job. Pick up the artifact on Ceonus and bring it back to his boss on Kigantu. In, out, done — as easy as making love. But the seller, an eccentric trillionaire with a dark soul, inconveniently died while he was en route. Now he’s got to convince the guy’s weird, clueless stepson to honor the deal.

When a stranger makes a proposal that would let him walk away for good, he’s never been more tempted. But to get to the bottom of it, he must be willing to betray some very powerful people — and survive one insane night on the town.

Geddy’s Gambit is a prequel tale for Reassembly, C.P. James’ humorous space opera series. Fans of grown-up sci-fi humor like Guardians of the Galaxy, Firefly, Galaxy Quest, and The Orville will love this fresh and funny take on the genre.

Void Soldier

Earth’s most elite space force.

Perfectly trained. Completely expendable. Endlessly reusable.

In a world where recruits disappear and assets return, humanity is measured in memories kept.

Jack Rourke has nothing left in his dying rust-belt town except a fractured family and a future going nowhere.

When a mysterious government program offers escape, he takes it—only to discover he’s not being trained, but transformed.

Stripped of his name, assigned a number, and subjected to brutal conditioning on an orbital station, Jack realizes this isn’t military recruitment—it’s human processing.

As the system methodically erases his identity, Jack forms an alliance with fellow recruit Connor, preserving fragments of themselves through whispered memories in the dark.

But when the final test comes—a deadly seven-day survival gauntlet on an airless asteroid—Jack must decide: become the perfect asset they demand, or hold onto the humanity they’re determined to erase.

Some soldiers are made. Others are unmade.

Until next time, have fun and read a lot of books!
