Sorry for the late release today. I overslept, which is a rarity for me.
On the days I commute for work, I wake up at 4:30 AM. Every other day, I wake up at 5:30 AM, even on the weekends. Now, I don’t always get up when the alarm goes off, but I give myself the option of getting up. Ultimately, I’d like to get back to waking up and working out first thing in the morning, but so far, I’ve been too lazy.
This morning when the alarm went off at 5:30, I must have turned the alarm all the way off, because I didn’t wake up again until 7:30 AM. To my dismay, I hadn’t started the newsletter, and I had Father’s Day brunch scheduled for 10:00 AM. This situation reminded me of a scene in By Archangel’s Light where a character oversleeps and ends up in quite a predicament.
Luckily for me, I just had to shower and get ready and didn’t have to deal with the crazy situation this character did. Be sure to check out my Mechhaven missive below for an update on my progress editing By Archangel’s Light. As I review the book, I’m getting more and more excited and am looking forward to sharing the story with all of you.

Book 5 Progress: I’m pleased to report that as of this weekend I’ll be 50% of the way done with reviewing my editor’s notes regarding By Archangel’s Light. This puts me about 8 days ahead of schedule, but I think at my current pace I can wrap up most edits by the end of the month. This will give me a chance to complete a final read-through and polish during July. I’m still looking at a late August release date and will start locking in promotions toward the end of this month.
Sometimes it’s hard to enjoy your work in progress while you’re in the middle of working on it. But once you’ve had a chance to step back and read it with fresh eyes, you can see when it is coming together the way you expected. That’s the feeling I’m getting right now. There are some really cool action scenes and some really poignant moments. And this is only halfway through!

For years, Velal dreamt of reaching the senior ranks, but her first mission as Executive Officer becomes a nightmare when her battleship, the Patient Watchman, is ambushed by pirates in a chaotic asteroid field.

But when he finds Ril, she’s not just a scrappy runaway—she’s carrying dangerous secrets that could shake the Star Corps to its foundations. With ruthless pursuers closing in and Ril’s life in his hands, John has a choice: hand her over, or risk everything and finally take a stand.
The odds are impossible, but for the first since his discharge, John has something worth fighting for—and a shot at reclaiming the life he thought he’d lost forever.
