Thankfully, I have no new critter news this weekend. That should save my wallet a bit!
I was surprised recently with “springing forward” to Daylight Savings Time. For some reason, I thought we’d moved away from that. I guess we’re still on the biannual changing of time. Seems a little silly to me. At this point, I don’t care which “time” we stick to, but let’s stick to one and enjoy the natural progression of light through the seasons.
We also officially moved from winter to spring a couple of days ago. So Happy Spring! I’ll enjoy the extra light in the evening. It’s still usually dark when I leave for work and get home…so there’s that 🙂
I have a few days off coming up, so of course I’ll be focusing on Mechhaven Book 5: By Archangel’s Light. But I’ll also have some time to catch up on some shows or movies I’ve been missing. Here’s what’s on my current watch list:
- Severance Seasons 1 & 2
- Invincible Season 3
- Wheel of Time Season 3
- Daredevil: Born Again Season 1
- Alien Romulus
What do you think? Are there any good shows that I’m missing? We don’t watch much TV these days, just a couple of anime.
I’d love to play some video games, I hear Helldivers is really fun, and we have Star Wars Outlaws, my son said was pretty good. A new Civilization came out recently as well. I just have to be careful with video games as they scratch a similar creative itch as writing, so they can be a hindrance to completing that type of work. I may hold off on video games until I send Book 5 to my editor.
Mechhaven Missives
- My first editing pass on By Archangel’s Light is going well. I’ve edited around 102,000 words so far. This leave me with about 18,000 words left. I should wrap those up in the next 3-4 days.
- Once I finish with those 18,000 words, I have a few areas I’ve “tagged” for further follow up. These mainly consist of following up on details, names, or other items I didn’t want to stop in the middle of editing to verify. I have one or two scenes I need to rework a little bit, but nothing major.
- I’ve determined I’ll need to write another 5-6 chapters to complete the final battle and wrap everything up. I have about two weeks left to send my manuscript to my editor. I’m confident I’ll be meeting the April 7th deadline.
- At the current rate, unless something really crazy comes up, I think I’ll release By Archangel’s Light between mid-June and mid-July. I wish I could get it out sooner, but I’ll need some lead time to schedule promotions. I can’t do that until I’m pretty solid on the release date and I typically schedule those 4-6 weeks ahead of time.
Next weekend, Friday, March 28 – Sunday, March 30, I’ll be at WonderCon at the Anaheim Convention Center. The hours are 11:30 AM -7:00 PM on Friday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM on Saturday, and 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday.
I’ll be at table SP-12 in the Small Press area.
This is my first appearance/show of 2025 and I’m looking forward to it! So far the weather looks like it’s going to be pleasant, and it’s not a holiday weekend, so I’m hoping for a larger crowd this year.
If you attend, please stop by and say “hi”. If you mention that you’re a newsletter subscriber, I’ll give you a small gift (*while supplies last).
