It’s been all about the conventions for the last month or so. First up was Comic Con Revolution Ontario. It was a little slower than I had hoped, but it was close to home and I still had a good time talking to readers, and getting to know some of the other authors and creatives.
Last weekend was Pasadena Comic Con, which had been delayed due to the fires in LA County in January. This show started out with a bang and kept going. For a one day show, it ended up being very good. It was fun meeting a number of readers, one, Madelynn, who’d picked up Pax Machina last year, waited to buy the rest of the series until she could buy them in person this year. So nice and made my day. I also talked to a reader who’d picked up book one the previous week at CCR Ontario and was enjoying it, but wasn’t quite ready to pick up book 2. Soon I hope!
This weekend I’ll be at Anime Riverside. I’m not selling anything or working, just relaxing, doing a little cosplay, and hopefully having a good time geeking out. It’s a small show, but they do really good job with it. They have a big outside stage where music is playing most of the day and they hold their biggest panels outside, so everyone who wants to can watch. It’s pretty unique from most other shows I’ve seen.

Mechhaven Missives
- Book 5 Progress: Last weekend, I received my editor’s notes on my manuscript back. This week I’ve started reviewing his suggested revisions and making my final (hopefully) edits. So far, I’ve completed three chapters and I’m trying to stick to a chapter a day for my review. With any luck, and I don’t hit any major snafus, late August is my target to release By Archangel’s Light.
- Speaking of conventions… I thought that I had missed out on L. A. Comic Con, but after speaking with a number of other creatives at Pasadena Comic Con last weekend, I decided to contact the organizers. Luckily enough, I secured a spot in Artists Alley at L.A. Comic Con in September! This will be my biggest show to date, and it will be my first show with a complete Mechhaven series. I’m very excited. More details to follow.
- There is a podcast on Spotify called Indie Author Showcase. Chad featured Pax Machina on one of his recent episodes. I’ve talked to Chad at a number of conventions over the last year or so. As a father of two boys who are now young men and as an indie author, I can totally sympathize with his predictament.
